Road Notes: Day 149

There are quite a number of Earthship birthdays this week. I was happy to celebrate Branden’s birthday just the two of us, but tonight is a kind of group celebration for all the birthday people. There is a big charity benefit at Taos Mesa Brewing’s Mothership location on the mesa with a free performance by Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears. I spent the day baking cupcakes: vanilla and pineapple upside down cake, Branden’s favorite. I had some leftover pineapple juice and a cherry so I made a cocktail of course. Beachbum Berry’s tiki app is fantastic…you can enter the ingredients you have and it gives recommendations for tiki drinks you can make. Since my bartending days consisted of making gin and tonics and long island iced teas, I never learned some really great cocktails. Never too late. I made a Carioca Hawaiian cocktail, which was simple and delicious.

Branden came home, showered, and we headed back out to the brewery. They are practically across the street from us and their beer is really good. We pounded some nachos, stuffed our faces with cupcakes, dances to some music, and drank beer with everybody. Even though I am not attending Earthship, everybody has really made me feel welcome and a part of the group. I have enjoyed hanging out and getting to know everybody. We strolled on home, full and tired, and hit the hay. After all, Branden still has to go to class tomorrow.

Road Notes are timed entries—written in thirty minutes or less at the end of each day. Considerations are made for spelling/legibility but not for grammar. Deal with it.
