Off to Mexico in three days and I should be packing and getting our camper ready for storage. Instead I'm procrastinating in a coffee shop (hence this post). In preparation for this next phase of our lives, L and I have unburderned ourselves from a few big responsibilities (not the least of which being our camper, sorry, Reba) and will now have a lot more time and energy to devote to Rotten Journal. Expect better and more frequent content in the weeks and months to come. Thank you all for yo...

Here's a quickie cuz it's late and The Witches (1990) starring Anjelica Huston is on Amazon Prime rn. Today we discovered that Arena México is not going to have a single lucha libre event the entire time we're in town. Mega bummed.

Tomorrow we tour our new co-working facility.

Okay, that's all, bye. Back to the scariest movie of all time according to seven year old Branden.*

Finally booked our Airbnb for Mexico City and not a moment too soon. Looking at rental cars now. Found some absolutely gorgeous cabins just outside the city that were stunningly cheap but were a little too remote for our purposes this time around. Will really need to come back with a few friends here soon and enjoy some quiet (or not) time in the country.

Scheduled some private lessons in Spanish for the next several days. Hopefully I can brush up enough as to not make a complete fool of myse...

We returned from the Desert Daze music festival in Joshua Tree, CA yesterday and slept for 100yrs. We spent most of today washing the desert out of our clothes and our bags and our hair. Some with be in our lungs for some time though. We love that area and have been casually keeping an eye out for land there for some time.

We got to meet up with some old friends, including a few we didn't know were going to be there so that was a nice surprise. All the bands were incredible. The vibe was incr...

Drove solo to Los Angeles today to run a few errands. Operating on very little sleep at the moment but I miss this city so damn much I'm not allowing myself to miss a second of it. Just walked a mile to get a French dip at Philippe's.

Crashing in a PodShare hostel in Little Tokyo. I've always been curious about them and since I'm traveling solo at the moment I thought I've give it a try. We'll see how tonight goes but the concept is fantastic. It's essentially a hip (and fantastically located...

We're sick :(

Dammit. I'm in the middle of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark but I just got an alert on my phone to write a Road Note so here I am. The weather is finally starting to cool off a bit in Vegas. It was actually a bit chilly at the pool today. We're currently trying to line up interviews and visits for Mexico but between then and now we are going to be moving non-stop (after this movie, of course). I'm spending a few days in LA during the first week of October. My mother and brothe...

Shit Tiki (at the Life Is Shit Music Festival) was a lot of fun. I spent all of yesterday recovering, which mostly involved staying in bed and watching River's Edge starring Keanu Reeves, and Carrie (the original), and part of a documentary about the Battle of the Bulge, and part of a documentary about tiny homes and then I ordered a pizza.

We spent most of today exploring out options re: Mexico City. Apparently we're just outside the travel window for a Delta Airlines refund (due to the eart...

Okay, very quick one today as I still have much to do before I sleep. Yesterday we did two shoots, back to back, for Tastemade: we filmed, and inhaled, a $250 sushi roll, then we rushed to the Fremont Street Experience to take a couple rides on the zoomline (superman-style zipline) with a GoPro. After that we met up with our friend Ariel for a few drinks but had to call it a night around 1am as we were both starting to wilt. Today was mostly spent preparing for tomorrow's shoot and this Satu...

Yesterday we attended the 44th annual Las Vegas Greek Food Festival to film on behalf of Tastemade. We fucking adore Greek Festivals and this is one of the largest in the country. The first was in 1973 at the Stardust Hotel! We absolutely stuffed ourselves with lamb and baklava and coffee and beer and ouzo a repeat ad infinitum. We also finally got to try retsina--a 2000 year old Greek wine that had traditionally been stored in amphorae sealed with pine resin. A bit of the pine aroma would s...
